| Problem Description
A ProLiant server with PCI Hot Plug functionality running Microsoft Windows 2000 or any edition of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 may experience a memory leak when the ProLiant PCI Hot Plug Controller Driver (CPQPHP.SYS) for Windows 2000 / Server 2003 Version 6.3.0.1 (or earlier) is loaded.
See EM040218_EW01 for details of the issue.
Symptoms
The memory leak eventually drains the memory resources, causing the server to blue screen. The following Stop Codes have been observed:
STOP 0x41 MUST_SUCCEED_POOL_EMPTY
STOP 0xC2 BAD_POOL_CALLER
The presence of the memory leak can be verified by using Performance Monitor to observe the Memory = > Pool Nonpaged Bytes counter. An increasing value confirms the memory leak, since this value is typically steady and does not increase
Cause
Any ProLiant server with PCI Hot Plug functionality running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or any edition of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and loading the HP ProLiant PCI Hot Plug Controller Driver (CPQPHP.SYS) for Windows 2000 / Server 2003 Version 6.3.0.1 (or earlier).
Resolution/Workaround
A workaround is not available. To recover from the blue screen, power-cycle the server. The HP ProLiant PCI Hot Plug Controller Driver for Windows 2000 / Server 2003 from SmartStart Release 7.10 (or later) will prevent the memory leak from occurring. SmartStart Release 7.10 is currently scheduled to become available in June 2004. Engineering is working on getting this driver released ASAP.
